One-Day Cultural and Gastro Tour of Novi Pazar

This one-day tour takes you from ancient monuments and old fortifications to the vibrant flavors of one of the most diverse gastronomic scenes in Serbia.

City Fortress with the Watchtower – A View Through Centuries of History

Our first stop is the Novi Pazar Fortress, a medieval Turkish town founded by the city's founder, Isa-beg Isahović, in the 15th century. Situated on the right bank of the Raška River, it stands out with its triangular layout comprising three corner bastions and the iconic Watchtower (Kula Motrilja), 15 meters high, once used for observation. Today, the fortress and the watchtower are proudly featured on the city's coat of arms, symbolizing the enduring historical identity of Novi Pazar.

Altun-Alem Mosque – A 16th-Century Gem of Islamic Architecture

Our next stop is the Altun-Alem Mosque, known as the "Golden Mosque," one of the most famous Ottoman sacred sites in Serbia. It was built between 1516 and 1528 by the renowned builder Muslihedin Abdulgani. Declared a monument of exceptional importance, its elegantly shaped mihrab (prayer niche) and wooden gallery bear witness to the finest artistry of the classical Ottoman period.

Ulica zlata (Golden Street) – The Golden Heart of the Old Bazaar

We then wander through the vibrant Golden Street – the heart of the old čaršija where the city's rich trading heritage comes to life. This historic market street, lined with goldsmith and jewelry shops, offers insight into the centuries-old craft of gold and silversmithing for which Novi Pazar is famous. The lively atmosphere and the gleam of gold in the shop windows make this a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Old Hammam – A 15th-Century Ottoman Bath

We continue to the Old Isa-beg's Hammam, a remarkable double Turkish bath built by the city's founder, Isa-beg Ishaković, between 1460 and 1470. Located near the old čaršija on the bank of the Raška, this long building is divided into two separate sections for men and women, each covered by domes of varying dimensions – eleven in total. Declared a cultural monument of great significance, its well-preserved structure allows us to step back in time and imagine the daily rituals of the Ottoman era.

Gastronomic Delight and Tasting – A Feast for the Senses

Our tour concludes with a true celebration of the city's culinary heritage at a traditional "Pazarska sofia" (Pazar table). Here, you will taste the iconic local specialties that define Novi Pazar's gastronomy – from savory mantije and juicy jufčice, to unique savory pies and the distinctive ćevapi. You will also have the opportunity to try a wide selection of sweets, as well as other dishes passed down through generations, making this a true feast for the soul.
